Introduction

The unit introduces students to the digitalisation of maritime supply chains and the strategies, technologies, and data practices reshaping how shipping, ports, terminals, freight forwarders, warehousing, and landside transport operate and connect. Building on students' existing study and experience in maritime and logistics, the unit develops skills to assess digital maturity, map and improve business processes, apply executive data science to decision-making, and evaluate the fit of emerging technologies within the maritime supply chain ecosystem.

Students will engage with contemporary frameworks for digital transformation, learn to assess an entity's position on the digitalisation curve relative to its ecosystem partners, and consider how technology adoption can improve the cost, service, and environmental performance of maritime supply chains. Foundational topics include data standards, data hygiene, software product management, and process mapping. Advanced topics include executive data science, IoT and advanced connectivity, automation, AR/VR/blockchain, the growing role of artificial intelligence in maritime decision-making, and cyber security management.
