Navigational Watchkeeping unit (JND281)

Introduction

The unit integrates Watchkeeping theory and practical application and problem-solving exercises involving the use of the Integrated Marine Simulator. Students will also develop skills and knowledge to carry out watchkeeping procedures, respond to potential collision and emergency situations, IALA Buoyage System, maintain an accurate record in the vessels log, and Bridge Resource Management. Students will also have knowledge of basic manoeuvring and ship handling principles. This unit builds on the knowledge gained in year 1. It meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the current Maritime Training Package, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and Table A -II/1 of the STCW code.
