Weather Watchkeeping unit (JND293)

Location: Launceston

Introduction

On completion of this unit, students will have the knowledge and skills to use meteorological instruments as a Deck Watch keeper for the safe navigation and operation of the vessel and be able to interpret and record the weather and apply it to watch keeping requirements. This unit also involves a basic understanding of the principles relating to the atmosphere, weather forecasting and interpretation of relevant weather data. This unit builds on the knowledge gained in year 1. It meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the current Maritime Training Package, STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments), and Table A -II/1 of the STCW code.

Teaching Pattern

Blended delivery in the form of lectorials and online learning supplemented with consolidated face-to-face learning towards the end of the semester.

Students attending classes and students electing to study in flexible mode will follow the same class timetable. Total lecturing hours have not changed from the existing ones. Both categories of students will have access to the same resources through MyLO.

Lectorials Duration/ Frequency/Timetabling:
