Navigation Management unit (JND320)

Introduction

On completion of this unit a student will be able to plan and manage a voyage using advanced navigation techniques and to lead and manage the bridge team under differing circumstances including search and rescue. The knowledge acquired during formal lectures and presentations is applied and tested during extensive trials under simulated conditions in an approved ship simulator, which will include collision avoidance, search and rescue, passage planning and navigation, and emergency drill exercises. This unit meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the current Maritime Training Package, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and Table A-II/2 of the STCW code.

• Manage navigation using knowledge of: Determination of risk of collision , Passage planning for varying conditions, Bridge resource management, International buoyage systems, Limitations of electronic navigation systems and Search and Rescue techniques.
• Apply knowledge of: COLREGS to avoid collision, IAMSAR manual to carry out search and rescue, Navigation techniques to maintain navigation safety ,Passage planning to navigate the vessel .
• Manage Bridge Resource Management

Teaching Pattern	Blended delivery in the form of lectures and online learning supplemented with consolidated face to face learning and practical training in simulated ship environment towards the end of semester Students attending classes and students electing to study on flexible mode will follow the same class time table. Total lecturing hours have not changed from the existing.
