Harbour Operations and Services unit (JND517)

Introduction

This unit introduces students to the best management practices for dealing with the ship-shore interface and will provide the skills and knowledge necessary to assume an operations management role. Topics covered include: the role of port authorities and legislative matters; the regulations and codes governing vessel operations within a port; Harbour Master's powers and Harbour Master's Directions; the technical aspects of port operations, including mooring, berthing and anchoring operations, cargo handling equipment and storage, handling and transfer of various cargo types; environmental and safety aspects of port operations.
