Introduction
This unit provides students with the knowledge and skills to manage the high voltage generation and distribution installations found on modern ships and other offshore installations. This includes the design, installation, construction, trouble shooting, maintenance, commission, and calibration of the HV propulsion machinery, ancillary machinery, and related systems in line with statutory and operational requirements. The unit also deals with planning operation and electrical maintenance functions during routine operations and maintenance cycles, manage and allocate the required procedures and resources to sustain the operation of the vessel, and plan and carry out HV switching operations for repairs including Propulsion systems. This also includes liaisons and reporting to shipping, industry, and statutory stakeholders. This unit meets the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency set out by the Maritime Training Package MAR 60120, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and Table A-III/1, AIII/2 and AIII/6 of the STCW code

- Explain why High Voltage is preferred in some Marine applications
- Apply HV electrical safety principles and procedures to the solving of High Voltage network problems.
- Explain the process of Isolation, testing and maintenance of High Voltage equipment.

Teaching
| Teaching Pattern | Blended delivery. The first component of this unit will be self-paced, fully online and assessed through MyLO, beginning when the Semester begins. The second component will consist of three days on-campus intensive training and assessment followed by one practical day (four days face to face training in total).
