Advanced Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations unit (JVD215)

Introduction

This unit provides training at an advanced level to ships officers on board Liquefied Gas tankers who have immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging and care in transit or handling of cargo. This unit meets the learning outcomes of A-V/1-1 paragraph 2 and table A-V/1-1-2, of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments).

Learning Outcomes

• Advance understanding of the equipment, instrumentation and controls used for cargo handling on a liquefied gas Tanker.
• Achieve an enhanced awareness of potential hazards, control measures and apply safe operational procedures when carrying out various cargo operations on board a liquefied gas Tanker.
• An improvement in the ability to respond to various emergencies including fire and protect the marine environment.
• Evaluate safe working practices in accordance with the legislative requirements, codes of practice, permits to work and environmental concerns (including LSA, FFE and machinery).
