Marine Machinery Maintenance and Repair unit (JVE146)

Introduction

This unit provides the students with the knowledge and skills to plan, manage, and carry out operational, maintenance and repair work involving marine ancillary systems on commercial vessels. These include: Boilers and steam plant, pumping systems and components, de-salinators, oil purification equipment and systems, refrigeration and air condition systems. The work involves planning maintenance schedules, trouble shooting, measurements, monitoring, dissembling, replacements, reassembly and commissioning in line with safety and statutory requirements This unit meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding, and proficiency set out by the current Maritime Training Package, the STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments), Table A-III/1 of the STCW code, and relevant AMSA Marine orders.

• Demonstrate the safety practices involved in handling tools and equipment typically found on-board ships for mechanical repairs and maintenance.
• Carry out successfully the common maintenance and repair of Boilers and auxiliary machinery found on-board ships
• Manage heavy repair work, communicate with team members while effectively using the resources at your disposal.
