Advanced Design Research unit (KDA718)

Introduction

Advanced Design Research provides you with the opportunity to undertake in-depth research in design with a focus on areas of research strength in Architecture & Design including environment and sustainability, regional urbanism, advanced materials design (including timber), design for health, digital design and fabrication, heritage and conservation, participatory design and design philosophy and criticism, as well as interdisciplinary projects emphasising emergent research opportunities in the School of Technology, Environments and Design. Drawing on knowledge and skills developed in the Design Research: Methods in the first year of the Master of Architecture and application within a focused context, you will develop competency in undertaking design research, critical for future practice in a rapidly changing global environment. A series of selectives will be offered each year based on staff research interests and current projects encompassing a diverse range of methods and outputs. Selective streams will operate independently, but are centrally coordinated, integrating key content and providing a forum for sharing design research approaches and outputs across the various streams.
