Integrated Studio unit (KDA719)

Introduction

Studios in the Master of Architecture emphasise professionalism, critical and rigorous design thinking, knowledge of contemporary and emergent theories, technologies and practices, and the development of skills for a diversity of future careers in architecture. Integrated Studio focuses on the synthesis of functional, technical, statutory and economic priorities in the design and documentation of programmatically complex buildings. A key emphasis of the studio is the development of environmentally responsive design solutions. Lectures, and presentations by construction industry professionals and experts will provide an understanding of the implications of various construction systems and processes on the project. You will also be introduced to practices and protocols within architectural practice and the interface with relevant consultants and specialists in developing project designs. Based on a local development scenario and evaluation of local site conditions and statutory requirements, you will develop a return brief, propose a sketch design integrating relevant information required for planning and development applications, and refine design and develop and coordinate a sample of project.

Learning Outcomes

• Formulate design priorities by analysing the interrelationships between environmental conditions, statutory and client requirements.
• Design solutions for an environmentally responsive building that addresses functional, technical, statutory and design priorities
• Iterate detailed design drawings using consultancy feedback and advise for environmentally responsive buildings
• Prepare project documentation appropriate to the stages of the building procurement process for internal review in an architectural practice
