Location: Hobart

Introduction

This unit is compulsary for Honours in Earth Sciences students who specialise in Earth Sciences, Economic Geology or Environmental Geosciences, and is optional for students specialising in Geophysics.This unit introduces students to specialist topics in earth sciences, including field mapping skills, and a choice of either igneous petrology, mineralogy, structural geology or geochronology. Unit delivery is via two intensive teaching blocks involving a combination of lectures and practical components, one of these teaching blocks is the Exploration Field Skills mapping camp where geological mapping and resource exploration skills are taught and assessed during a one-week field excursion beginning two-weeks prior to the start of Semester 1.
