Wilderness Management unit (KGA378)

Introduction

The unit provides practical understandings about planning and management of protected areas. It examines the diverse objectives that protected areas have, emphasising the conservation of natural and cultural values, as well as their use for tourism. The Unit addresses major themes associated to contemporary protected areas including conservation management; changing concepts of national parks; conservation and human values; cultural values in natural areas; tourism management and education; management challenges, technical services and ecologically sustainable tourism development and its impacts. The unit takes an international perspective examining the roles that international and national strategies, policies and contemporary management approaches play in the maintenance of values associated with protected areas.
