Introduction
In this unit, you will learn about the statutory and common law affecting cadastral surveys and cadastral survey practice. The topics covered in this unit include a review of relevant statutory authorities, legislation, directions and standards; land survey field methodologies; land boundary definition and reporting. During the semester you will also take part in several field-based projects, where you will apply your theoretical knowledge to cadastral practice in rural and urban land boundary redefinition projects.

- Explain the role and responsibilities of a land surveyor in cadastral boundary definition.
- Evaluate relevant survey standards, directions and legislation in regard to the definition of land boundaries.
- Collect and compile relevant information to define land boundaries.
- Prepare cadastral survey plans and reports with respect to relevant standards and directions.
