Location: Hobart

Students may organise their own placement or may choose to work with the unit coordinator to explore placement options.

Placements will be full-time (5 days per week) and run from July to November (Semester 2)

This unit requires 15 weeks of full-time work placement with a University-approved supervisor in a surveying firm. Students return to campus for 2x 2 day sessions during the placement period to undertake land surveying project work.

Introduction

Land surveying is a specialist area of the geospatial industry that is regulated by legislation that requires professionals in this field to be registered with surveyors boards. The role of registered land surveyors is crucial to society as they are the only people who are legally allowed to define and identify property boundaries. In this unit, you will undertake a period of work placement with a surveying firm and under the supervision of professional land surveyors. The primary goal of this placement is to provide you with experience in the roles, responsibilities and work practices of land surveying.
