Introduction

This unit introduces students to foundational approaches for organising information, analysing patterns, and modelling real-world systems. It covers sets, logical reasoning, numerical methods, counting techniques, and introductory matrix models that underpin contemporary data analysis, scientific inquiry, and technology. Through a combination of real-world examples and introductory coding activities, students develop structured reasoning skills to solve problems across disciplines such as biology, environmental science, computing, and engineering. This unit is a core unit within the Statistics and Decision Science major (Bachelor of Science).
