Introduction
Modern statistical modelling (KMA356) is a third year undergraduate unit offered by the School of Natural Sciences (Mathematics). The unit presents modern statistical methods for developing applied models and confronting them with real world data. Students will be shown how simulation and Bayesian methods can be used for inference, using the R programming language within RStudio. Emphasis will be placed on developing communication skills targeted towards both professional and non-professional audiences, and documenting analyses to allow reproducibility. This unit is designed to equip undergraduate students with both advanced and fundamental practical statistical skills. These skills can be utilised in higher level research degrees or in various professions that require data handling.
