Introduction
You will build upon the foundations of inorganic chemistry and be introduced to more advanced concepts and applications. The topics will include bonding and structure and how this influences chemical reactivity. You will also explore how this understanding is applied to catalysis and the application to synthesis and benefits industrial applications. The laboratory program will cover advanced laboratory methods associated with the handling of organometallic reagents and products for catalysis/synthesis and prepare students with the skills required for more independent research.

- Evaluate and predict the structure, chemical properties, overall outcomes and mechanistic pathways of metal-based systems using advanced molecular orbital theory and periodic table trends.
- Analyse and justify spectral data and evidence for reaction mechanisms and metal-ligand bonding by determining and differentiating the structure of molecules and compounds.
- Demonstrate safe laboratory procedures for organic and inorganic synthesis and isolation of compounds using standard techniques and characterisation methods.
- Communicate experimental outcomes and relevant chemistry concepts that adhere to discipline conventions.
- Design suitable inorganic complexes for specified reactivity
