In this unit, you will explore the biological and physical factors that shape the design of fishing gears and methods, and their operation in fisheries both in Australia and globally. A special focus will be on the identification and mitigation of fishing’s negative impacts on the marine environment. You will be introduced to the process of collecting experimental fishing data in the field, and the unit will equip you with the quantitative skills necessary to assess the selectivity of various fishing methods.
