Advanced Electromagnetism unit (KYA320)

Required for students majoring in Physics.

Introduction

The objective of this unit is to provide a thorough grounding in electromagnetism from both a modern and classical perspective, and to appreciate the mathematical framework through which quantitative problems in these areas can be solved. Applications of physical principles in daily life and technology form a key part of the learning activities in the unit. Students are encouraged to develop their conceptual thinking ability, and to practice approximating real situations by simpler physical/mathematical models including through computer simulations. In addition, in the second semester laboratory course you will undertake self-directed experiments relating to material covered in the physics major.
