Location: Cradle Coast, Melbourne Study Centre, Hobart, Launceston, Online, Shanghai Ocean University

Introduction

This unit explores foundational theories and concepts of human behaviour in organisational settings. Students will examine how individuals, groups, and organisational systems interact, as well as how these dynamics influence organisational effectiveness. The unit draws upon theories and concepts from a range of disciplinary perspectives to enhance students' understanding of topics such as personality, values, motivation, diversity, teamwork, communication, leadership, power and influence, organisational design, organisational culture, and organisational change.

A strong emphasis is placed on developing professional interpersonal communication and teamwork skills. Students will engage in collaborative activities and reflective practices to build their capacity for effective planning, communication, and teamwork. By the end of this unit, students will be equipped with the analytical tools and interpersonal competencies necessary to understand and integrate knowledge on how and why people act the way they do in an organisational setting and apply that knowledge to improve everyday approaches to managing people and organisations.
