Principles of People Management unit (BMA615)

Introduction

This unit is designed to form a platform of knowledge associated with contemporary people management practice in organisations.  Recognising that organisations operating in a globalised economy are facing a confluence of complex and volatile people related challenges, this unit aims to equip students with underpinning knowledge of continually evolving approaches to managing people to achieve organisational as well as maintaining employee engagement.

Examination of traditional theory and practice will support critique of how people management is conceptualised in organisations operating in a globalised context.  Students are offered an opportunity to explore current challenges in people management with a view to developing well considered responses with due regard to traditional and emerging theory. Students will be required to employ reflective practice to critically consider people management practices and operational/managerial mechanisms to effectively meet organisational goals through the appropriate management of people.
