Strategic People Management unit (BMA723)

Introduction

An appreciation of the strategic nature of people management is a key capability for leaders and management in all enterprises. Organisations across all industries operating within a global economy are facing complex and fast-moving challenges associated with the availability of skills, labour, diversity, technological advances and the changing expectations of the employment relationship.

This unit aims to equip you with a suite of learning and capability to respond appropriately to current and emerging matters of concern associated with workforces and the individuals that support the achievement of organisational strategy. Recognising that strategic people management is influenced and moderated by contextual factors, the unit will present you with the opportunity to examine and critique people management practices as they apply in different jurisdictions.  This unit promotes a broader perspective that questions established Western approaches to traditional human resources management. It invites you to think more expansively about how organisations formulate strategies and practices associated with managing people.

With a specific focus on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) the unit aims to establish an appreciation of the role of leaders in creating more sustainable workplace and workforces.
