While support is available, students are responsible for securing a placement that meets the unit’s requirements. Students who have not obtained a placement or completed required compliance documentation by census date will be withdrawn from the unit. Students must complete the following compliance documentation before the start of the placement and before census date: 1. Safe to Practice declaration (Schedule A); 2. Medical Check form (Schedule B, if required); 3. Placement Work Plan (Schedule C); and 4. the online UTAS Safety and Wellbeing Induction for Students.
Introduction
This unit provides an opportunity to apply your ICT knowledge in a real workplace setting. By working directly within an organisation, you’ll bridge the gap between theory and practice, gaining insight into how ICT professionals contribute to meeting organisational goals.
During your placement, you will undertake genuine work tasks, collaborate with colleagues, practise professional ethics, and experience workplace culture firsthand. This immersion will help you better understand the capabilities expected of ICT graduates and allow you to reflect on how your studies have prepared you for professional practice. You will also be encouraged to identify your strengths and areas for further development through personal reflection and feedback from your host organisation.
Your placement will be completed in an assigned role over a minimum of 16 full-time equivalent days. Work hours and scheduling (for example, two days per week over eight weeks) must be negotiated with your approved placement provider. Placements may occur in a range of environments, including government departments, industry organisations, small-to-medium enterprises, or within the University.
While support is available, you are responsible for securing a placement that meets the unit’s requirements. If you have not obtained a placement or completed required compliance documentation by census date you will be withdrawn from the unit.
