Pathway to Allied Health courses for Tasmanian students
If you want to become a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, or speech pathologist, we have an exciting new way for high school graduates to get guaranteed entry into one of our allied health degrees!
If you are in year 12 in Tasmania and are completing the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) or International Baccalaureate (IB), you could be eligible.
Up to 10 places in each of the three Allied Health courses are reserved for students like you, based on your ATAR.
Steps to apply for the Guaranteed Entry Pathway
- Be enrolled in year 12 (TCE or IB) in Tasmania
- In Year 12, apply for one of the following degrees:
- Apply to the Guaranteed Entry Pathway via the online form by the 1st December prior to the year you are commencing study.
- Once ATARs are released, if you are selected, you will receive a letter of offer confirming conditional acceptance to your preferred Allied Health course (places in the Guaranteed Entry Pathway are limited, and selection is competitive).
- While studying your Bachelor's degree, you must study full-time, complete all the required pre-requisite units, and keep a minimum GPA of 5.0 (Credit or better average).
Please note that you cannot defer your start date. If you finish year 12 in 2026, you must start your bachelor’s degree in 2027.

Guaranteed Entry Pathway is only offered to domestic students who complete TCE or IB in Tasmania in the year preceding entry into the University of Tasmania.
Students must be in year 12 in the year they are applying for the Guaranteed Entry Pathway. Students cannot defer their offer in the Guaranteed Entry Pathway.
Students can still apply for each of the Master's programs once they complete their undergraduate studies. There will be at least 20 places in each Master’s program for any given intake available for direct entry.
Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is a summary of all your final results foreach course you do. The maximum you can get is 7 points. To calculate your total GPA, the grade for each unit is multiplied by the unit credit points (e.g 6 x 12.5 if you have a Distinction in a standard 12.5 credit point unit). Your GPA for your course is then the sum of grade points divided by the total credit points attempted. A GPA of 5 is a credit.
Students who receive credit as part of High Achiever Program (HAP) units can study at a reduced load but must complete their undergraduate degree within three years.
Students can preference two course options in the online form. Students will be ranked initially by their first preference. If they are unsuccessful. They will be ranked for their second preference.
Students who are selected into the Guaranteed Entry Pathway are expected to study full-time in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Psychological Sciences. If a student requires part-time study, this must be approved in advance by the Academic Lead of Master of Occupational Therapy, Master of Speech Pathology or Master of Physiotherapy by emailing shs.l&t@utas.edu.au.
The Master of Occupational Therapy and Master of Physiotherapy are only offered in full-time study modes. The Master of Speech Pathology offers a dedicated part-time pathway and students in the Guaranteed Entry Pathway can opt to study Speech Pathology in either full time or part-time mode.
No, students cannot defer their offer to the bachelor’s program or master’s program and remain in the Guaranteed Entry Pathway.

The only Guaranteed Entry Pathway combination that requires students to overload to fit in the prerequisite units is the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science – Master of Speech Pathology.
Only two of the three required prerequisites can be taken within the degree structure (one is core, and the other can be taken as an elective). To meet the additional prerequisite units, students are required to enrol in a non-award unit to be studied as an overload in one semester of study.
Prices for these units are paid upfront; however, we have set the fees within the same range (approximately) as a Commonwealth Supported Place fee.
