UniGO is a 25-credit-point elective that takes your learning beyond the classroom. Travel to Indonesia, Vietnam or Malaysia and discover how Indo-Pacific communities are responding to pressing sustainability challenges.

Over 28 days, you’ll learn alongside universities, community organisations, businesses, government agencies and local leaders developing practical solutions to environmental and social issues. Through cultural and language immersion, you’ll explore how place, culture, technology and policy shape approaches to sustainability.

What will I do?

  • UniGO is a 25-credit-point elective (HOS201) titled International Mobility: Global Sustainability and Local Responses in the Indo-Pacific that begins in November.
  • Build your knowledge and confidence through a pre-travel module and mandatory pre-departure workshops exploring environmental sustainability from local, national and global perspectives.
  • Travel with confidence. We’ll guide you through every stage of your preparation, including travel vaccinations and visa requirements.
  • Complete Assessment Task 1 in December, before you depart in January.
  • Spend four unforgettable weeks overseas in January, travelling with a cohort of 35 students and supported by teaching staff and trusted local partners.
  • Step into real-world environmental sustainability projects led by not-for-profit and community organisations. Where possible, you’ll also connect with University of Tasmania alumni and Australian volunteers working in-country.
  • Learn practical language skills through structured lessons and everyday conversations with local partners and students, building your communication skills, cultural understanding and confidence along the way.
  • Complete Assessment Tasks 2 and 3 while you’re in-country, drawing on the people, places and projects you encounter.
  • Reconnect with your cohort at a final post-trip workshop in February and reflect on what you’ve learned.
  • Results are expected at the end of March. If UniGO is the final unit in your degree, you can expect to graduate in August.
