UniGO: Global Opportunity Program

• UniGO is a 25-credit point elective unit, International Mobility: Global Sustainability and Local Responses in the Indo-Pacific (HOS201), that begins in November 2026 Trimester period.
• You will complete a pre-travel module and attend mandatory pre-departure workshops, introducing you to key perspectives on environmental sustainability, including local, national and global challenges.
• You will receive comprehensive guidance throughout the pre-departure process, including assistance with travel vaccinations and visa requirements.
• You will complete Assessment Task 1 in December, prior to departure in January.

• Your 4-week overseas trip will take place between 5 January - 1 February 2027 with a group of 35 students, accompanied by 2 teaching staff and our partners on the ground.
• You’ll visit and contribute to a diverse range of environmental sustainability initiatives delivered by not-for-profit and community groups and, wherever possible, we will introduce you to University of Tasmania Alumni and Australian volunteers working in-country.
• You will learn basic language skills by engaging with local partners, students, and through structured lessons. Daily, social interactions will allow you to practice communication, and strengthen cultural understanding and confidence.
• You will complete Assessment Tasks 2 and 3 in-country.

• You will attend a final mandatory post-trip workshop on 5 February 2027.
• Results are expected to be released at the end of March. If UniGO will be your final unit to complete your degree, graduation would be expected in August.

The following courses have sufficient elective space to undertake UniGO, though your eligibility may depend on how many electives you’ve already taken.

*For students enrolled in a Diploma of Arts, Associate Degree in Arts, or Bachelor of Arts, UniGO may be taken as a Discipline Elective.

If you answered ‘Yes’ to all four questions, you will be eligible to apply.

If you have insufficient elective space to enrol in UniGO (HOS201) ask your Student Advisor if you are able to make changes to your study plan by changing your Semester 2 planned units or rescinding credit.

International students can apply for UniGO if you have completed at least two units (25 credit points) by the end of Semester 1 and have elective space in your study plan. However, please be aware that additional fees will apply:

Program Participation Fee

• If you are not an Australian citizen, you are not eligible for NCP Mobility Funding (see page 10 of the guidelines).
• Because of this, international students must pay a UniGO Program Participation Fee of $3850 AUD.
• This fee covers all major costs including your flights*, accommodation, activities, insurance, ground transport, and eSims.
• This fee is payable either upfront or via an instalment plan prior to departure.

Unit Fees

International student unit fees are unique to each student, their course and any scholarships they may be undertaking.

1. Students are enrolled into UniGO (HOS201) under their existing course code.
2. You are then charged a tuition fee which is the equivalent of the annual rate divided by eight to get a per 12.5CP unit cost. As HOS201 is weighted at 25CP, the tuition fee should be double the cost of a 12.5 unit.
3. If you are currently receiving a Tuition scholarship for your course, this will reduce the tuition fee depending on your circumstances.

Travel Fees

We pay for your flights*, accommodation, activities, insurance, ground transport, and eSims.

• *UniGO covers domestic connecting flights for students residing in Tasmania (departing from Hobart or Launceston) and international airfares for all students departing from Melbourne to Indonesia or Vietnam.
• If you are located outside Tasmania, you will be responsible for booking and paying for your own domestic connecting flights to Melbourne prior to international departure with the group.
• If you are travelling from outside of Australia, and have received written approval from the UniGO Team, you will be responsible for booking and paying for your own international airfares directly to Indonesia or Vietnam.

If you’re an international student planning to join UniGO, it’s a good idea to speak with an International Student Adviser to ensure there are no implications to your visa.

Students who have already completed UniGO as either HOS200 or HOS201 are not eligible to reapply.

Students studying postgraduate, Master's degrees, Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas, or via Open Universities Australia (OUA) are not eligible to participate in UniGO.

We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment and actively encourage participation from students of all backgrounds. We are committed to working closely with students and, where possible, making reasonable adjustments to help you meet UniGO’s Participation Requirements (PDF 205.2 KB).

All units have a fee attached to them, and when a student enrols, this fee will be charged in the system.

Domestic Students

As UniGO is a 25 credit point unit, domestic students will be charged a tuition fee of $4,248 and a SSAF fee of $105.30 for enrolment in HOS201.

• For students in a Commonwealth Supported Place, who are eligible to defer, they can choose to pay upfront (fully or partially) and the fees remaining outstanding post the applicable census date will defer to their HELP-debt.
• For domestic students in a ‘full fee paying place’, you may be eligible for ‘Fee Help.’ This works in the same way as a HECS-Help, but the fees are likely to be higher for these students. If you aren’t eligible to defer, you will have to pay up front.

International Students

• You pay for your pre-departure expenses (passport, visa, travel vaccinations) and in-country meals/incidentals not provided by our partners.
• Students facing financial hardship can apply for a UniGO Financial Support Scholarship of up to $1500 to cover pre-departure expenses, travel equipment, doctor consultations and or a living-away-from-home allowance.
• UniGO students may also be eligible to apply for other financial support including the OS-Help loan and the University of Tasmania Study Abroad and Exchange Scholarships.

• Applications for UniGO 2027 are now closed.
• After applying, provided you meet the requirements above and there are still spots remaining in the Program, you will be made a conditional offer.
• Conditional offers will be made on a rolling basis. This means you can expect to hear from our admissions team within 4–6 weeks of submitting your application.
• With limited spots available, we encourage early applications to avoid disappointment.

Students who receive a conditional offer will progress to the second stage of the application process, where we will support you to confirm/secure the following:

• Valid Australian Passport
• Tasmanian Registration to Work With Vulnerable People
• Health Declaration Form, completed and signed by your GP/Specialist
• Wellbeing Check

Admission is conditional on you completing and/or verifying all items listed above. If you are unsuccessful in securing any of the required documentation, your offer will be withdrawn.
