Our Study Tour programs offer participants from international universities, government bodies and other organisations an opportunity to study English and enjoy the many opportunities to explore Tasmania and experience its famous lifestyle.

The University of Tasmania has been delivering these programs since 1995 and enjoys a solid reputation for presenting high-quality, customised learning experiences. Our programs are designed to meet group needs and target the improvement of language, academic and communication skills and the enhancement of personal development through the experience of studying and living abroad.

Study tour options

Stand-alone

Content is custom – designed to meet the needs of your group.

Integrated

Your students can join English classes with other students from around the world.

Combined

Both stand-alone and integrated classes are available within a single program.  (Conditions apply)

Integrated English/General English

This is an integrated program where your students can be placed in a class with other international students of similar ability.  Participants develop English skills and everyday communication.  General English programs are usually taught in 10-week blocks.

Study tour groups may be enrolled for 5 weeks from the start of each study intake.  The program dates are fixed.  General English courses that are longer than 10 weeks will lead into an EAP course.

General English

A general English program that enables participants to develop and improve communication and conversations skills for everyday situations. This program is available to students with skills from beginner to advanced levels.

English & Australian Culture

Participating groups develop English skills while learning about Australian culture, customs and colloquial language.

English By Nature

Experience and learn about Tasmania’s stunning natural environment through themed excursions and classes on conservation, tourism, recreation and fresh food. Launceston campus only.

A Taste of Tasmania

This 1- 2 week program is aimed at adults who would like to learn some functional English that can be practised in the afternoons and during excursions and tours of Hobart and its surrounds.

Discover the University, Tasmania and English

A short, one-week program designed for parents of University of Tasmania students or those considering the University and Tasmania as a study destination. Discover English at the ELC and be part of selected tours that highlight the beautiful environment that is unique to Tasmania.

TESOL - Professional development

Providing tailored professional development for teachers, participants build English proficiency, confidence and transferable teaching skills.

Maritime English

The Maritime English program provides authentic content and experiences related to maritime industry-specific communications. Includes delivery from the Australian Maritime College.
Launceston Campus only.

English for Business

This program provides a platform for future work or study. You will learn to communicate effectively in business situations.

English for Tourism & Hospitality

Aimed at those who want to work in the tourism and hospitality sectors, this program will develop participant’s practical and communicative skills through a variety of applied tasks, interactions with industry personnel and site visits (minimum IELTS 4.5+ required).

English By Nature: From the Land, Tasmania's Farms and Produce

Develop your English language skills while learning about the unique agricultural produce of Tasmania. You will explore various themes and learn of local and seasonal produce as well as innovations in the island’s food economy and more.

Nature: Tasmania’s: Unique Wildlife and Environment

You will learn about Tasmania’s unique wildlife and diverse natural environment whilst increasing your knowledge and use of the English Language. Wildlife conservation and biodiversity will be explored.

Times

Our customised programs are available throughout the academic year, with classes held during Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

Course length

Customised to suit your group (generally 4-12 weeks)Study Tours are not available as a principle course for student visa holders.

Any group of students, staff or employees (participants must be at least 18 years of age)
