Overview

South32’s Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company (TEMCO) is a ferroalloy smelter located 50 kilometres north of Launceston at Bell Bay on the coast of Tasmania, Australia. South32 is a globally diversified metals and mining company. It produces bauxite, alumina, aluminium energy and metallurgical coal, manganese, nickel, silver, lead and zinc in Australia, Southern Africa and South America. TEMCO produces high-carbon ferromanganese, silicomanganese and sinter and remains the only manganese ferroalloy plant in Australia. The TEMCO Community Foundation provided a significant gift to support several scholarships at the University of Tasmania.

Eligibility

Available to a student of any age who is commencing an Honours degree in Semester 1, 2023 and who resides in the Tamar Valley region of Tasmania. Mature age students are encouraged to apply. Selection will be based on financial need and academic merit. The Tamar Valley region includes the areas within the George Town Council, West Tamar Council and City of Launceston boundaries and all suburbs within the greater Launceston area.
