Overview

Hillwood Berries wish to establish a scholarship with the aim to increase industry skills, provide opportunities for students and support a career path in the horticultural industry. Hillwood Berries is a family run company in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley producing soft berry fruits for Driscoll’s. Senior staff of the business include a number of University of Tasmania graduates who wish to encourage and support current students through the latter part of their University degree. With 54 hectares of hydroponic berry crops grown under poly tunnels, Hillwood Berries is one of Tasmania’s leading berry producers and a significant employer in northern Tasmania. The business continues to undergo significant expansion and values employing proactive locals into their growing team whilst increasing technical knowledge and supporting timely research.

Eligibility

Available to a student full-time Honours in Semester 1, 2023 in any area of the College of Sciences and Engineering whose research will further improve the technical capacity, business outcomes and/or agricultural value of Tasmania’s berry fruit industries. Preference will be given to a project that has relevance to Hillwood Berries. Mentoring and work placement opportunities with Hillwood Berries may be available for the successful applicant. Students from the North of Tasmania or any students able to travel to the Tamar Valley are encouraged to apply.

On-going Eligibility

  • Achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester
  • Continue full-time study
