Overview

Ian Wilson is a descendent of miners, farmers, and tradesmen from the North-West and West Coasts. He graduated from the University with a BSc (Hons) degree in 1972 followed by a PhD in Physics in 1977. Most of his working life was with CSIRO where he finished his career as a Chief Research Scientist and technical director of a technology company.
Launceston born Jill Wilson, nee Williams, graduated from the University with a BA (Dip Ed) in 1969 followed by teaching at Smithton. She subsequently qualified as a librarian and worked for a time at the University's Morris Miller Library, then the State Library of Victoria, and finally as a Director at Monash University Library.
Both Jill and Ian were scholarship recipients which enabled them to attend university, an opportunity that shaped their lives in useful and rewarding ways. They are acutely aware of the transformative power of a university education and endowed the Jill and Ian Wilson Scholarship to help young people who for financial reasons might not be able to attend university.
