Overview

This scholarship has been endowed by the colleagues, friends and family of Dr. David Paget for the encouragement of excellence in mathematics. David made a significant contribution to the study of mathematics in Tasmania through his work at the University of Tasmania where he implemented a challenging new first year course for mathematically gifted students and encouraged talented High School students with coaching and maths camps. David became the National Director of Training for Australian Mathematical Olympiad Committee and the IMO Team Leader for Australia for several years before he died in 1997. He has a street in Canberra named after him.
The David Paget Memorial Scholarship aims to continue David's enthusiasm for mathematics and may be awarded to a high achieving student in their second year of a major in Mathematics.

Eligibility

  • Available to a student who is enrolling in second year of a Bachelor of Science or combined science degree in Semester 1, 2024 and is majoring in mathematics and has shown potential in the discipline.
  • Selection will be based on academic merit (highest marks in first-year mathematics units).
  • The selected recipient may retain the scholarship for both the second and third year of their Bachelor of Science (or combined science degree) majoring in mathematics.

  • Maintain a GPA of 5 or above
