South32 is a globally diversified metals and mining company that operates in Australia, Southern Africa, and South America. Its range of products includes bauxite, alumina, aluminium, energy and metallurgical coal, manganese, nickel, silver, lead, and zinc. Previously owning the Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company (TEMCO) from 2015 to 2021 in Bell Bay, Tasmania, South 32 produced high-carbon ferromanganese, silicomanganese, and sinter. The smelter continues to be the sole manganese ferroalloy plant in Australia today. South32 through their TEMCO Community Foundation, left a lasting financial legacy to assist individuals to attain further education at university by making a significant donation to fund scholarships and bursaries at the University of Tasmania.

Eligibility

  • Available to students commencing a Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation) with Honours in the first half of 2025 who resides in the Tamar Valley region of Tasmania or the Dorset Municipality.
  • These bursaries can be applied for by students in Year 12, mature age students who require retraining due to redundancy, or individuals re-entering the workforce due to an absence relating to personal circumstances or disability.
  • The Tamar Valley region includes the areas within the George Town Council, West Tamar Council and City of Launceston boundaries and all suburbs within the greater Launceston area.
  • Selection will be based on demonstration of financial need.

  • Achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester

Up to four years of an undergraduate degree (does not include separate one-year Honours course)
