Overview

The Dr Dorothy Blackburn Speech Pathology Scholarship has been established by a donor to promote the higher education of Speech Pathology professionals in Tasmania. Dorothy was a caring medical professional at the Mersey Community Hospital, Latrobe and had a love for music, reading and gardening. Dorothy learnt to fly at Devonport, Tasmania and gained a Private Pilot's licence becoming a member of the Australian Women Pilots' Association. She represented Tasmania as their President during 1978 and 1979.

Eligibility

  • This Scholarship is available to a Tasmanian student entering their 2nd year of the Master of Speech Pathology in Semester 2, 2026.
  • Selection will be based on the applicants expressed passion and commitment to work in Tasmania and on demonstrated financial need.
  • Applicants will also demonstrate motivation and passion for Speech Pathology, their future related career and how the scholarship will help them succeed.
  • A preference may be given to a student who has an interest in Speech Pathology practice and care and or research for those in the community who are impacted by neurodegenerative diseases.

On-going Eligibility

  • Achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester
  • Remain enrolled
