Prof. Dennis Pashen Rural Medicine Scholarship

Overview

The University of Tasmania’s Rural Clinical School has established this scholarship in memory of Prof. Dennis Pashen. Dennis was a loved mentor and supervisor of many rural medical students and junior doctors across Tasmania and Australia. Dennis was a strong and passionate advocate for rural and remote medicine, having been President of the Rural Doctors Association and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine. He was Director of the Mt Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health, demonstrating a commitment to academic medicine and supporting students and trainees to live and work in rural communities. In the latter part of his career he worked on the West Coast of Tasmania and was named Tasmanian Rural Doctor of the Year in 2022.

Eligibility

  • Available to students who are commencing studies in the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (H7X) in the Rural Training Stream in Burnie.
  • Selection will be based on both financial need and passion for rural medicine.
  • Available to Tasmanian residents (with a preference for applicants from the West and North West of Tasmania or areas classified MM 3 - MM 7 using the Modified Monash Model) commencing a Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at the Cradle Coast campus (Burnie)
