The Isabel and John Gilbertson Charitable Trust was formed in 2002 as a means for the children of Isabel and John Gilbertson to continue their parents' charitable work. Son Andrew Gilbertson and his wife Charlotte have dedicated more than 20 years to ensuring young people with specific learning difficulties have equitable access to educational resources. In 2008 The Isabel and John Gilbertson Charitable Trust established the Gilbertson Family Scholarship Fund with the University of Tasmania to provide support for University of Tasmania students with specific learning difficulties via the Gilbertson Family Scholarship.
To retain the scholarship one-on-one tutoring with a university appointed tutor or mentor must be undertaken. If tutoring has not been utilised during a 12-month period, it will be deemed the student has not met the on-going eligibility and the scholarship may be cancelled.
Eligibility
- Available to undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate students with diagnosed specific learning disability (dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia) in any field of study at the University of Tasmania.
- Students may be studying full time or part time.
- To be eligible, students must agree to regular one-on-one tutoring with a university appointed tutor or mentor (for a minimum of 10 hours each semester) for the duration of the award and be registered with the University of Tasmania’s Accessibility Services.
- Applicants are not required to have an approved Learning Access Plan in place.
On-going Eligibility

Amount
$2,000 per year for the duration of the degree. The scholarship funds will directly cover the costs of activities including one-on-one tutoring with a university appointed tutor or mentor, and relevant hardware and/or assistive software as recommended by the University.
