Overview
These Indigenous Scholarships are made possible through the generous support of donors to the University of Tasmania, by the State and Commonwealth Government and by Riawunna. Applicants applying for this scholarship will be automatically considered for each indigenous scholarship within the umbrella scholarship.
To be eligible you will need to provide evidence that you meet the three parts Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity criteria under the Australian Commonwealth guidelines:
- Are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Self-identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Provide evidence of Community acceptance (Confirmation of Aboriginality) - a letter on organisational letterhead from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation (from your home community or current residence), signed by an Elder or authorised executive, confirming you are recognised as a member of that community.
From 2026 onwards for all Indigenous Scholarships, you must:
- Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Self-identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander on the UTAS Student System.
- Confirmation of Aboriginality — a letter on organisational letterhead from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation (from your home community or current residence), signed by an Elder or authorised executive, confirming you are recognised as a member of that community.

Eligibility
A number of different scholarships are available to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students who are commencing or continuing study at the University of Tasmania (excludes HECS fee waiver courses). Students will be considered for any of the scholarships below:
