Overview
The late Sue Napier, MHA, was a distinguished servant of the Tasmanian community through her roles as Deputy Premier, Opposition Leader, Minister, and leader of the Liberal Party of Tasmania. She was the first Liberal woman cabinet minister and the first woman to lead the Liberal Party in Australia. Sue Napier fought tenaciously for issues she held dear and was a tireless worker who championed the cause of those who were disadvantaged or suffered discrimination. But as a former teacher and academic, education was always closest to her heart.
To recognise her contribution to this State and to education, the Tasmanian Government, with the support of all sides of politics, has agreed to annually fund two education scholarships in her name to encourage and support deserving Tasmanians to become teachers, particularly those who might not otherwise afford it.
Eligibility
- Available to Tasmanians commencing either the Bachelor of Education or the Master of Teaching (one scholarship available in each course) in Semester 1, 2024.
- Selection is based on demonstrated financial need as well as evidence of academic ability.

- Maintain a GPA of 5 or above

Bachelor of Education students: $4,500 per year; Master of Teaching students: $5,000 per year
