Overview
Speechcare is a private practice with Speech Pathologists, occupational therapists, counsellors, teaching inclusion consultants and allied health assistants delivering holistic, neurodiverse-affirming assessments, intervention and consultations to client across the lifespan.
Established in 1992 and with three clinics in Brisbane, Speechcare has an excellent reputation and strong links with educational organisations such as Universities, schools and kindergartens. Speechcare currently works in several models of service, including within daycares, independent and catholic schools, via telehealth and in our clinics.
Speechcare’s director, Kate Ledingham, was born and educated in Tasmania before moving to Queensland in 2009. Kate visits Tasmania regularly and continues to have personal and professional ties to the state. Kate and Speechcare are dedicated to the upskilling of Tasmanian Speech Pathologists and improvement in access to high-quality, evidence-based Speech Pathology services to the local community.
As part of this scholarship, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to visit the Speechcare clinics in Brisbane and to shadow experienced clinicians delivering a range of services in schools and our clinics. The aim of this enrichment week is to provide insight to the final year student into the inner workings of private practice and to demonstrate how successful and ethical private practice can improve the quality of life of our clients and their families and other stakeholders.
Eligibility
- Available to a resident of northern Tasmania entering their 2nd year of the Masters of Speech Pathology.
- Selection will be based academic merit, the applicants expressed passion for Speech Pathology and commitment to work in Tasmania.
- Preference may be given to an applicant who demonstrates a passion and/or lived experience in trauma-informed and neurodiverse-affirming care for clients.
On-going Eligibility
- Participate in enrichment experience
- Achieve a minimum Pass result in all units studied each semester

$8,000 PLUS additional funding of up to $2,000 for an enrichment week with Speechcare in Brisbane.
