Overview
The late Mr Tsuneichi Fujii was a successful Japanese businessman who had a long association through major business dealings with Tasmania. In 1985 the Tsuneichi Fujii Fellowship was established in Tasmania to develop cultural, business and educational exchanges between Tasmania and Japan. From this concept, the Tsuneichi Fujii Scholarship was established at the University of Tasmania to support study exchanges for Tasmanian and Japanese postgraduate students across a range of disciplines to develop stronger links between our cultures. The University of Tasmania has strong connections with Hokkaido University (Graduate School of Environmental Science (GSES) in Sapporo and Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences (GSFS) in Hakodate) through the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS). The scholarship will provide an opportunity for an Australia-based postgraduate student to travel to Japan to undertake a short period of study or research at Hokkaido University, or a Japanese postgraduate student to travel to Tasmania to undertake a short period of study or research at the University of Tasmania (UTAS), as part of their research program. The direction of exchange rotates every year. Please check the "Eligibility" section below for more details about the current award round.
