The Fulbright Program is the flagship foreign exchange scholarship program of the United States of America, aimed at increasing binational research collaboration, cultural understanding, and the exchange of ideas.

Since its establishment, the Fulbright Program has grown to become the largest educational exchange scholarship program in the world, operating in over 160 countries. In its seventy-year history, more than 370,000 students, academics, and professionals have received Fulbright Scholarships to study, teach or conduct research, and promote bilateral collaboration and cultural empathy.

  • Fulbright Australia offers scholarships across all career stages, and all academic and cultural exchange, pursuing research or study at a U.S. institution, experiencing life abroad and bringing back their knowledge and experience to share with their communities in Australia.
  • Postgraduate - for postgraduate students undertaking their Australian PhD to conduct research in the U.S. for 4-10 months, OR for students to enrol in a U.S. graduate degree program (e.g. a Master’s) for up to two-years.
  • Postdoctoral - for individuals (who have completed their PhD in the past 5 years, or are in the last year of completion) to undertake postdoctoral research in the U.S. for 3-10 months.
  • Scholar - for academics (at Associate or full Professorial level) and mid-career professionals (with an undergraduate qualification and minimum 10 years' work experience) to undertake research and/or training in the U.S. for 3-4 months.
