Overview
John O W Watson was a Senator for Tasmania for 30 years, Known as the "Father" of the Senate due to his length of service, he played a key role in taxation, establishing the guidelines for superannuation in its formative years, and promoting improvements in public accountability and transparency. Following his time in the senate, John was a member of the West Tamar Council for 5 years, John Watson graduated from UTAS with degrees in Economics and Commerce in 1960 and 1962, respectively. He was a chartered accountant, company director, and University lecturer before becoming a Tasmanian Senator. John worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his fellow Tasmanians. Having worked exceptionally hard throughout his career, John would like to recognise a student showing determination and persistence to complete their degree, in the areas in which he studied and worked.
Eligibility
Awarded to the Bachelor of Business student with the highest marks for BFA391 Applied Taxation, and who demonstrates ongoing commitment to their course through consistent completion of at least two units in each of the last two study periods.
*Should BFA391 not continue, the prize will align with the unit containing the highest Tax content.
