This prize was founded in 1952 by Lady Nicholls in memory of her husband the late Sir Herbert Nicholls K.C.M.G. (sometime Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and a member of the Council of the University of Tasmania).
Awarded to the student with the highest achievement in LAW262 Private Law Obligations and Remedies and who has obtained in such year not less than satisfactory pass with distinction.
