The prize was established by family, colleagues, friends and former students in honour of the late Dr Elaine J Browne, a member of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Tasmania from 1959 until 1992.
Awarded for outstanding proficiency in Organic Chemistry by a student majoring in Chemistry in both theory and particularly practical at a third year level and who has presented for examination for the first time in the unit or units concerned.
