"I am so excited about the competitive standard of the UBL and the quality of players in the other teams. The UBL is another high-level competition for players who can also be studying at the same time which means we do not have to choose between sport and study.”

The New Balance University Basketball League (UBL) returns in August 2026, building on a landmark year for the University of Tasmania.
The UBL is Australia’s premier national university basketball competition, bringing together leading universities from across the country in a high-performance, home-and-away league format. Designed to showcase emerging talent and strengthen the connection between tertiary education and elite sport, the league provides student-athletes with the opportunity to compete nationally while continuing their studies.
UTAS closed out the 2025 season as dual champions, claiming both the men’s and women’s titles; our most successful UBL campaign in just our fourth year of competition. The result reflects the strength of our performance environment, the depth of talent within our program, and the strong culture that underpins UTAS Basketball.
We extend our sincere thanks to Swisherr for their outstanding support throughout the season, providing head coaches and comprehensive team and game management. Through this partnership, the pathway from school-based athlete development to competing as a student-athlete at UTAS continues to strengthen, with a growing number of players choosing to study in Tasmania while pursuing high-level basketball.
The 2026 season will see further national expansion, with more teams competing across Australia.
As reigning champions, UTAS looks forward to defending its titles this year.
