The Bachelor of Economics with Honours is an advanced course designed for students who have completed a Bachelor of Economics or an equivalent degree. This honours course provides a deeper understanding of economic theory and research methodology, preparing graduates for professional roles in industry, government, and academia, or for further postgraduate study.

University of Tasmania Tax Clinic
Available as an internship (elective unit) or volunteer (non-credit), the Tax Clinic is designed to build practical experience as a tax professional. Supported by the ATO, and under guidance from experienced educators, you'll have the opportunity to provide quality tax advice related to a range of areas, including annual tax returns, small business enquiries, advocacy on tax regulation and legislation, Centrelink assistance and payments, superannuation and retirement, and pension related issues or concerns.

Candidates are required to complete four units of coursework and to write a dissertation under individual supervision.
The award of honours is given in relation to the whole of the year's work. Grades of award are:
- First Class;
- Second Class, upper division;
- Second Class, lower division; or
- Third Class.

Entry requirements
Entry to the Bachelor of Economics Honours program is open to students who have completed:
- Bachelor of Economics with the Society and Environment major with a minimum of 65 average in four level 300 Economics units and a minimum of 65 in BEA242; OR
- Bachelor of the Economics with Industry, Policy and Business Strategy major with a minimum of 65 average in four level 300 Economics units; OR
- Bachelor of Business with the Business Economics major with a minimum of 65 average in four level 300 Economics units and a minimum of 65 in BEA242; OR
- Equivalent approved program.
Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor’s degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.
Course Specific Requirements
Entry to the Bachelor of Economics Honours program is open to students who have completed:

Domestic students
Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, this means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.
