West Park car park (including The Makers)
Location: 4 – 8 Bass Highway, Burnie
Cradle Coast campus
- Students: Free parking is available for University of Tasmania students with a valid student ePermit.
- Staff: A valid on-campus staff ePermit is required. Find out more at staff permit parking (login).
- Community: Short-term parking is available for community visitors, restricted mobility parking, allocated spaces for other precinct users, and electric vehicle charging stations for public use. Accessibility spaces and short-term parking can be found directly outside the main Field Building entrance and in The Makers’ car park.
Northern car park
Location: 14 Forster Street, Invermay
Inveresk campus
- Students: Free parking is available for University of Tasmania students with a valid student ePermit in the Northern car park (accessed from Forster Street) and managed by Launceston City Council.
- Staff: A valid on-campus staff ePermit is required. Find out more at staff permit parking (login).
- Community: Casual parking is available for community. View the car park rates.
- The Northern car park includes accessible spaces, while Restricted Mobility car parking for University of Tasmania students and staff visiting Inveresk can be accessed via McGrath Way.
The Shed car park
Location: 80 Cimitiere Street, Launceston
Inveresk campus
- A limited number of paid parking spaces are available for students and staff with a valid ePermit issued specifically for users of The Shed (see apply information above). Payment is required Monday-Friday between 8am – 6pm at a rate of $1 per hour (maximum 3-hour parking limit) using the EasyPark app.
- Accessible and Restricted Mobility parking spaces are available at The Shed (charged at the same rate above), and also a public electric vehicle charging station (charges apply).
Location: Newnham Drive, Maritime Way
Newnham campus
- Students: University of Tasmania students can park for free with a valid ePermit in select zones signposted ‘student permit’ (spaces with red markers around each bay).
- Staff: A valid on-campus staff ePermit is required (spaces with white markers). Find out more at staff permit parking (login).
- Community: Short-term paid voucher parking is available for visitors (spaces with blue markers), as well as various accessible and Restricted Mobility spaces are available across the Newnham campus at locations which include the Australian Maritime College, and student accommodation sites Newnham Apartments and Investigator Hall. Public electric vehicle charging (see UniMaps) is located near the Survival Centre and charges apply.

Sandy Bay campus
- Students: University of Tasmania students with a valid ePermit can park for free in select areas, which are signposted ‘student permit’ (spaces with red markers around each bay).
- Staff: A valid on-campus staff ePermit is required (spaces with white markers), along with electric vehicle charging stations. Find out more at staff permit parking (login).
- Community: Visitors to campus can access paid voucher parking areas signposted ‘visitors’ and indicated by blue markers around each space. Payment can be made using voucher machines on-site or the EasyPark app. Accessible and Restricted Mobility spaces can be found at various locations. Public electric vehicle charging (see UniMaps) is available on campus.
Hobart City Council-managed parking options
Location: Throughout the CBD
- Parking at the University's Hobart CBD sites is primarily supported by City of Hobart paid on-street or multi-storey parking facilities, with limited exceptions outlined below. - Students and staff: We encourage sustainable transport wherever possible, so if you don’t want to drive, you can make the most of our inter-campus UniHopper shuttle bus, or park and ride from the Sandy Bay campus, catching a fare-free Metro bus service.
- Staff: CBD parking information for staff is available at staff permit parking (login).
School of Creative and Performing Arts car park (Hunter Street)
Location: Entrance off Evans Street, chain gate is accessed by swiping a student or staff ID card with a valid permit)
- Students: A limited number of paid parking spaces are available for students studying at our School of Creative Arts and Media who have a valid Hunter Street Student ePermit. This is a paid parking area, and blue markers indicate student spaces. Payment can be made using the EasyPark app.
- Staff: Limited reserved parking is offered for staff permit holders. Find out more at staff permit parking (login).
Frequently asked questions
The University uses a digital permit system managed through EasyPark. Read our how-to guide for students (PDF 1.3 MB), then visit the Easy Park digital permit website to apply. ePermits are free for currently-enrolled University of Tasmania students.
Staff ePermit information is available on the Staff Intranet.
Only one vehicle can be assigned to an ePermit at a time, however you can change the vehicle by logging into your account via the online digital permit system and updating the car registration details.
If you hold a student or staff parking permit, it will be valid for use at our Sandy Bay, Inveresk, Newnham and Cradle Coast campuses only.
Yes. Anyone with a valid Australian Disability Parking Permit or Tasmanian Disability Parking Permit can park in designated Accessible parking spaces at our campuses. Students or staff with restricted mobility issues can apply for a University-issued Restricted Mobility Parking Permit which enables parking in designated Restricted Mobility spaces on campus. These bays are standard-sized parking spaces and suitable for people who, due to restricted mobility, need to park in close proximity to buildings and facilities but do not require complete walking aids such as wheelchairs. They are only issued for the period of incapacity.
Yes, designated motorcycle parking bays are available for use. If you wish to park in a permit or voucher zone, please ensure you display a valid permit or voucher to avoid being issued an infringement notice.
Our parking officers use number plate scanning devices that are synced with our digital permit system, allowing them to check if vehicles have a valid ePermit. To avoid infringement, please ensure your ePermit is valid and that you have parked your vehicle in the relevant, signposted area.
Students and staff still need to pay for parking in designated voucher zones, even with an ePermit.
Parking infringements, by-laws and terms and conditions
Parking officers monitor our car parks, so it’s important to register for an ePermit and pay close attention to where you’re leaving your vehicle. Infringements issued at our campuses are managed by the Hobart City Council, on behalf of the University.
