A passionate and dedicated Bachelor of Music student, Guy Swan loves exploring different aspects of music and sound, and he has found Tasmania to be the perfect place to pursue his passion.
Growing up in Hobart, Guy was interested in music from a very young age. He played drums, guitar, and piano, and he was always eager to learn something new. He was inspired by different musicians and genres, and he spent countless hours practising and honing his skills.
When Guy decided to pursue his studies at the University of Tasmania - majoring in Music Technology and Commercial Music Creation - he knew he was in the right place. A beautiful and vibrant island state in Australia, Tasmania is known for its stunning natural landscapes, rich history, and diverse cultural scene. It is a perfect place for a creative and curious student like Guy, who loves to explore and experiment.
“Inherently just being here, even if you're not consciously thinking about Tasmania as a place, I think it's definitely just in the music anyway," Guy said.
"I think it's sort of impossible to escape that when you're creating music. The field recording element definitely adds a really tangible sense of place.”
At the University of Tasmania, Guy has had many opportunities to learn and grow. He has been able to work with talented professors and fellow students who share his passion for music and sound. He has also had access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including the Hedberg recording suite, where he has spent countless hours recording and producing music.
“There's a lot of good venues that champion live music, local music, and then obviously with places like Mona as well, getting a lot of the bigger artists that may not come down otherwise.” Guy said.
One of the things that Guy loves most about Tasmania is its vibrant music scene. There are many talented musicians and artists in the area, and he has been able to connect with them and collaborate on various projects. He has also been able to perform at local venues and events, sharing his music with the community and getting valuable feedback.
