As demand grows for skilled maritime engineers and seafarers, students at the Australian Maritime College came face to face with the employers shaping the sector at this year's AMC Careers Expo.
More than 50 organisations attended the annual event, offering students direct access to recruiters and industry leaders across shipping, offshore energy, defence and marine engineering. Around 650 students took part.
Principal of the Australian Maritime College, Mal Wise AM, said the Expo provides a practical bridge between study and professional life.
"Our students graduate with highly specialised skills," he said.
"The Careers Expo gives them the opportunity to demonstrate those capabilities directly to industry and to better understand where their qualifications can take them."
Employers attending this year included Birdon, DoF Australia, Ponant and Australia's Submarine Company (ASC), alongside other long-standing partners of the College.
For many students, the conversations that begin at the Expo lead to internships, cadetships and graduate positions. Just as importantly, they offer insight into a sector that continues to evolve.
"The maritime workforce is changing," Mr Wise said.
"Students need to be technically strong, but also adaptable and ready to work in complex, global environments. Events like this help them see the breadth of opportunity available."
He encouraged students to approach the Expo with preparation and purpose.
"Take the time to ask considered questions and think carefully about where you want to contribute," he said.
"The industry is looking for capable, engaged graduates who understand both the responsibility and opportunity that comes with working at sea and in maritime engineering."
The AMC Careers Expo was held Wednesday ,18 March 2026.
