The University Foundation Committee (UFC) acts to ensure that the University’s philanthropic practices and policies are consistent with its mission and strategic plan. It also ensures that trusts and funds provided through philanthropy comply with the wishes of donors and are used for educational, research and other approved purposes of the University.
We are grateful to members of the UFC who volunteer their time to provide oversight and governance of philanthropic activity at the University. Of note was the committee’s strategic input into developing the philanthropic pipeline for the University and its consideration of opportunities for actively engaging philanthropy in the Sustain campaign’s philanthropic pillars. In 2025 the committee also provided ongoing oversight of philanthropic investments, management of endowed funds and the strategic direction and KPIs underpinning the work of the Advancement Office.
Two new members were welcomed to the committee in 2025. They are Professor Tracey Dickson and Lailani Mirkazemi. Professor Tracey Dickson is the Director of the University’s Menzies Institute for Medical Research and a University of Tasmania alumna. She brings incredible passion and knowledge of the impact philanthropy can make on research, as well as over 20 years of experience in leading neurodegenerative disease research work. Alumna Lailani Mirkazemi is a director of a private foundation and brings a considered approach to philanthropy and the rigour required to manage donors’ wishes.
The University aims to make a difference for Tasmania and a distinctive contribution from Tasmania. Philanthropy plays a key role in helping the University achieve these goals.
