About the program

A unique opportunity to experience life at art school with a hands-on workshop led by practicing artists and educators, where year 9-12 students can experiment with materials, techniques, and creative thinking in a supportive environment. Perfect for school and college groups, this engaging program encourages curiosity, creativity, and confidence while introducing pathways to further study and careers in the creative industries. The experience culminates in a guided tour of the Plimsoll Gallery and the Centre for the Arts.

Program Options include:

Painting skin tones: Capturing the nuance of skin tones is one of the most rewarding challenges for any artist. Moving beyond flesh tones requires a keen eye for the underlying hues that make each face unique. In this hands-on workshop, your students will learn the basics of colour theory applied to portraiture.

Painting still life focus: A guided, hands-on session where your students learn how to observe everyday objects and translate them into paintings.

Drawing plants: Your students will be invited to carefully observe what they see. Each drawing discovers something new about the plant and the artist.  The session will conclude with an opportunity to share drawing outcomes with each other in a supportive environment.

Monoprint posters: The workshop will provide students with an opportunity to use monoprint techniques involving chance, process and materials to transform their ideas in unexpected ways.

Expressive figure: In this hands-on sculpture workshop, your students will create a figure using a combination of construction and sculptural techniques. Students will learn how to build simple armatures and structures using found objects wood and a range of joining methods. The workshop concludes with a brief showcase and discussion, allowing students to share their work and reflect upon how sculpture can communicate ideas and feelings.
