The University of Tasmania’s Magnetometers in Schools project helps teachers bring Earth’s magnetic field into the classroom by providing schools with magnetometers and curriculum-aligned teaching resources.
A range of lessons designed for high school students have been developed, including:
- “Measuring Earth’s magnetic field with a smart device”
- “Investigating the magnetic properties of rocks and minerals”
These hands-on activities can be completed within one to two hours in the classroom. The project aims to make abstract concepts – such as geomagnetism, space weather, and the aurora – accessible and engaging in a school environment.
